Pat Kennelly is the vice-president elect of NACIS and the GIS Program Director at Central Oregon Community College, happily returning to Oregon 22 years after earning his PhD from Oregon State University. Pat’s experience in GIS includes working as the GIS Project Manager for David Evans and Associates, Inc. in Portland and as the GIS Manager for the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology in Butte. He transitioned to faculty in academia 17 years ago, teaching courses and advising programs in GIS at Long Island University in New York. During this time he published dozens of articles related to the cartographic representation of terrain and applications of GIS to evaluating natural resource and environmental concerns. He is also an adjunct professor at Penn State University, where he teaches courses and advises students in their online Masters of GIS program. Pat has been teaching in this program since its inception in 2004, and has advised more than 50 students from all over the country and even the world in applying GIS technology to numerous disciplines as they complete their capstone projects and Master’s degree.
