Field trip: Mapping gentrification through breweries

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This trip will take participants through the historic downtown of Tacoma, Washington. Along the way, your host Jim Thatcher will lead discussions on Tacoma's history as the terminus for the Northern Pacific Railroad, its expulsion of immigrants from Asia (the infamous Tacoma Method), and its long history of struggle with social and economic development. The tour will use the recent glut of craft breweries as both the organizing locus for discussing longer histories and as a symbol of Tacoma's current struggles with displacement and gentrification.  Meet in the lobby of the Hotel Murano.
Cost: Free
